This is a long-distance trek with high difficulty, which stretches for almost 800 kilometers, crossing the whole Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the treks that leads to the hidden corners of the natural border, in which walkers can see the beauty that lies at each stage of this fascinating hike, (marked with white and red marks) and where we discover thousands of emotions, secrets, charming places and breathtaking views that change at each stage.

The different stages sometimes pass through villages, refuges or inns, making it an assisted trek. You’ll meet the culture of the small villages you pass through, the native fauna and their characteristics. A journey full of emotions and daily surprises.

Stage 33, the GR11 which crosses the Principality of Andorra

This stage begins in our town of Encamp and ends at Refuge de l'Illa.. Along the way you can enjoy different paths along the Madriu river passing by several lakes.

Enjoy the surroundings of our municipality throughout the 16 kilometers of the trek; you will pass by the Font de les Molleres, the Camí dels Matxos and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Vall del Madriu-Perafita-Claror , as well as you will have access to several free refuges that have cooking facilities and sleeping areas. At the beginning of the hike there are many options for refueling, as it crosses different areas such as Lake Engolasters or Els Corralets snack bar.

Rest, the best asset to finish the GR11

The start of stage 33 in the center of Encamp, allows you to make a quality stopover and rest in one of the hotels located in town. Remember that next town with hotels is several stages further on. Hotel Montecarlo is located a few meters from the start of stage 33, in a quiet area of the center, with access to pharmacies, sports shops and supermarkets, among other basic services.
